The MM in Multiple Woodwind Performance will be offered beginning in Fall 2023.

The purpose of the Multiple Woodwind Performance program is to provide students with training and experience as woodwind doublers in a variety of performance settings including musical theatre.  Applicants will declare a primary instrument (saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe, or bassoon) and two secondary woodwind instruments (from the same group) on which to audition.  Supported by the woodwind and ensemble faculties, students will study and perform on all three instruments during the course of study.

The program's objectives are to:

• develop and refine technical and musical skills with study and performance of diverse, challenging and advanced repertory;
• prepare students for the rigorous demands of the music profession by teaching the discipline and self-motivation necessary to achieve excellence;
• introduce students to the traditions, operations, practices, and opportunities available in performance settings across the music industry;
• provide opportunities to investigate topics and repertories in advanced coursework.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance must audition separately on their primary instrument and two secondary instruments. Please consult the CCPA Admission and Audition Information web page for audition requirements for each individual instrument, and select two major works for the primary instrument and one major work for each secondary instrument. Applicants must demonstrate an artistic performance level on each instrument. Sight-reading is also required.

Grade Requirements

• Applied Lessons: B- is the minimum passing grade for primary applied study (Applied 411) and secondary applied study (Applied 401).
• Recitals: B- is the minimum passing grade for each PERF 428 GRADUATE RECITAL

GPA Requirements

Master’s degree students must maintain a cumulative Roosevelt GPA of 3.0 or higher to be in good academic standing.

Course Requirements

Enrollment in ensembles is contingent upon placement and assignment. All students in the Music Conservatory are required to participate in all ensembles to which they are assigned by the Program Director of Ensembles and Ensemble Coordinators, and in consultation with the Academic Advisors. Students who are assigned or receive permission to enroll as zero-credit participants in any ensemble will receive a grade; they must complete the same requirements as students enrolled for credit. Assignments are made at the beginning of each semester following placement and seating auditions.

Recital Repertoire

60 minutes of music is required. Chamber music may be included with the permission of the applied teacher. The recital will be graded by the applied instructor and at least one other faculty member.

Jury Repertoire

Fifteen minutes of music. Students are strongly encouraged (and some may be required by their applied professors) to perform solo literature from memory. All repertoire must be approved by the applied professor. No repetition of repertoire from previous juries is allowed. Individual faculty members are encouraged to implement additional requirements for students in their studios, to which their students are bound.
